Survivors of Gun Violence
The Need
Many urban communities are plagued with gun violence; everyday there are murders and injuries by gun fire. Survivors of gun violence can be permanently scarred and seeking help can be difficult.
As a result of community violence, both children and adults can suffer from emotional trauma, liken to PTSD seen in soldiers returning from war zones. PTSD symptoms include intrusive upsetting memories, nightmares, chronic anxiety and fear, memory loss, diminished interest in life’s activities, emotional numbing and angry outbursts. It is the effect of these symptoms that debilitate and tear at the self- esteem and motivation of survivors of gun violence and their families. Consequently, the community as a whole is affected, producing dysfunctional neighborhoods.
The Benefits
Benefits: The support group for both victims and family members allows for the participants to discuss the traumatic event in a safe and confidential environment. Participants can discuss the symptoms they are experiencing, release feelings, and gain insight to destructive behaviors associated with the assault, and to know that they are not alone; ultimately, we give group participants the support they need to move forward with their lives in a positive and meaningful way. The group will also provide resource information to participants seeking additional support services.
Group convenes on Tuesdays at 11:30; call in # 267-807-9601, mtg. # 730 902 365
Seniors Raising Young Children
The Need
Seniors more often are put in the position of having to be caregivers to young children. Sometimes it is their grandchildren or other young family members. For whatever the reason, seniors may find themselves as guardians/caregivers to children. This is not an easy task. It can affect every aspect of one’s life. Seniors need support to cope with the daily routine, of caregivers, the financial and emotional burdens, academics and more.
The Benefits
The support group allows for participants to discuss their situation in a safe and confidential environment. Participants are encouraged to discuss their feelings and emotions and their relationship with the child. We provide support for every aspect of the participant’s lives; most importantly participants will know that they are not alone; wellness is a primary goal for our senior support group.
UCEP offers a FREE biweekly support group on zoom. The group provides a safe space to share
experiences, strength and support. A place just for you!
I hope you will join us on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday each month at 10:00am

Life Coaching
Personal Development and Growth:
The Need: Many people have difficulty achieving goals, no matter how large or small. Although, they have the desire and the intention to get to the next level in their lives, people grapple with internal and external forces that interfere with personal growth and positive life change.
The Benefit: the Personal Development and Growth group provides support and personal coaching to assist participants in identifying the next level in their lives, identifying barriers to personal success, establishing goals and objectives, and navigating through the challenges to succeed.
This is accomplished through introspection, reflection, and utilizing their inner resources as a foundation to gaining confidence that will get participants moving towards their future. In addition, participants will receive information on community services and resources to support them in their endeavor to move forward with their lives.
